*Retired Health Care Provider Immunizer (WORKSITE LOCATION IS FLEXIBLE)

Position Summary

Interior Health has immediate openings for casual Unregulated/Retired Immunizers with related immunization experience to support COVID-19 immunization programs.
These positions are across all of the Interior Health Region. Your application must include:

The Unregulated/Retired Immunizer provides predetermined immunization(s) to children and adults in various community settings. Community settings can include schools, non-health unit locations and/or designated on-site clinics. Targeted immunization programs are defined as immunization clinics set up for the purpose of delivering a specific predetermined immunization(s) to a defined group of people.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Practices a team approach with Registered Nurses/Public Health Nurses
• Performs initial assessment for stable and predictable patients, including assessing client’s eligibility for publicly funded vaccine, screens for contraindications to vaccine and obtains informed consent as per established policies and procedures.
• Preparation of vaccines including the drawing of doses from vial, following established guidelines
• Administers the required vaccine in accordance with established guidelines.
• Counsels clients with regard to ‘after care” and possible adverse events.
• Completes required documentation including data collection.
• Observes for and assists in post-immunization monitoring for adverse events. Situational assessment and treatment of adverse events.
• Maintains vaccine cold chain and appropriate disposal of sharps.
• Assists with set up and dismantling of clinic.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience
• Previously registered as a Practical Nurse

Skills and Abilities
• Mandatory Training – Completion of mandatory training for immunization activities as outlined in the most current Provincial Health Officer order.
• Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
• Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
• Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Management – Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
• Leadership – Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
• Knowledge Integration – Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
