Licensed Practical Immunization Nurse

Position Summary

Interior Health have immediate openings for casual Licensed Practical Immunization Nurses, with related immunization experience to support COVID-19 immunization programs.

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, and under the general direction of the Manager (or designate), and using a Team approach with Public Health Nurses (PHN), the Licensed Practical Immunization Nurse provides predetermined immunization(s) to children four years of age and older and adults, who have stable or predictable states of health, in various community settings. Community settings can include schools, non-health unit immunization clinics set up for the purpose of delivering a specific predetermined immunizations to a defined group of people.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Practices in a team approach with Registered Nurses/Public Health Nurses.
• Assesses client’s eligibility for publicly funded vaccines, screens for contraindications to vaccine and obtains informed consent as per established policies and procedures.
• Administers the required vaccines in accordance with established guidelines.
• Counsels clients with regard to ‘after care” and possible adverse events.
• Completes required documentation including data collection.
• Observes for and assists PHN Coordinator in the management of fainting, anaphylaxis or other immediate reactions.
• Maintains vaccine cold chain and appropriate disposal of sharps.
• Assists with set up and dismantling of clinic.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a casual opportunity. Casual means that hours are not guaranteed and may vary.

** LPN’s are required to complete the BCCDC COVID-19 Immunization Competency Course in order to assist with vaccinations. **

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and some related experience with immunization and community settings. Completion of additional immunization education established by the BC Centre for Disease Control preferred.

• Current valid B.C. Driver’s License

• Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients/families, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Management – Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
• Leadership – Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
• Knowledge Integration – Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
