Life Skills Outreach Worker | Treatment and Support Recovery Team

Position Summary

Interior Health is currently seeking casual Life Skills Outreach Workers to join our team at the Lansdowne Centre located in Kamloops, B.C. This position will work with the Treatment and Support Recovery Team.

What will you work on?

This position supports clients on the Long Term Support and Rehab team who have serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance use issues. Some heavy lifting (laundry, groceries and moving client’s effects) is required.

Life Skills Workers play an important role in care. They plan, observe, monitor and report on clients’ progress and level of acceptance to services and support. They assist clients with activities associated with daily living and work to demonstrate and model appropriate behaviors related to problem solving and decision making.

Life Skills Workers provide structured support to help develop and maintain life skills related to:
• time management;
• money management, budgeting skills, how to access funds and other forms of available assistance;
• organization and interpersonal communication;
• personal care (e.g.: hygiene, routine);
• household management (e.g.: laundry, cleaning);
• menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation
• community access (e.g.: public transportation)

Shift times are from 08:30-16:30 hours. Shifts requiring coverage may vary and may include weekends.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Mental Health Worker Certificate or Human Services Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certification.
• Two years recent, related experience working with individuals living with mental illness, and/or substance use problems/disorders; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Food Safe Level 1 Certificate.
• Basic First Aid Certificate.
• Non-violent crisis intervention training.
• Valid BC Driver’s License.
