Patient Care Coordinator - Vernon, B.C.

Position Summary

Our emergency department at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, B.C. is seeking a motivated and organized Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) with emergency nursing experience to support and lead the team.

What will you work on?
As the PCC for our emergency department, you will be responsible for the coordination of day to day operations and the provision of high quality, safe patient care.
PCC responsibilities include:
• Supporting/coordinating the seamless movement of patients through the healthcare system and in accessing appropriate resources.
• Supervising staff, as well as serving as a role model and a resource to staff for clinical decision-making, clinical assessments of patients and in the counseling and education of families.
• Reviewing, analysing and making recommendations on the development of administrative systems such as policies, procedures and standards of patient care and adequate staffing levels.
• Developing and maintaining a continuous quality improvement environment.
• Liaising with the interdisciplinary team for identification, coordination and efficient utilization of resources as well as planning for staff educational needs.

The VJH Emergency Department is one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the Okanagan. We have state of the are technology in our equipment (cardiac monitoring, diagnostic imaging in our trauma room, negative pressure isolation rooms), communication devices (Vocera, nurse call system), and other care delivery processes (pneumatic tube system, Rapid Assessment Zone, Streaming, and a Minor Treatment Area). There are assigned Mental Health positions in the Emergency Department, staffed with RPNs or RN’s with Mental health experience. We service a broad scope of patients from Vernon and the surrounding area and there is a strong culture of team that exists within the nurses, physicians, and support staff providing a working environment that is very unique. A patient safety focus that fosters open dialogue to seek solutions together to any issues that we face is the hallmark of our team.

This is a relief part time position until approximately June 15, 2024 or return of incumbent. Shifts are days and nights, rotating and shift times are 07:00 to 19:15 and 19:00 to 07:15.

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area – Emergency Nursing
• Three years of recent related clinical experience in the assigned practice environment
• Two years recent supervisory and teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Current CPR certification required
