Tobacco and Vapour Enforcement Officer (WORKSITE LOCATION IS FLEXIBLE)

Position Summary

Immediate Casual work available for Tobacco and Vapour Enforcement Officers. This position can be located within our IH region at Kamloops, Williams Lake, Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton, Nelson and Cranbrook.

Tobacco and Vapour Enforcement Officers are responsible for enforcement roles mandated by the BC Tobacco and Vapour Product Control Act and Regulation (TVPCA/R) and E-substances Regulation (ESR), which include:

1. Preventing the sale, display and promotion of tobacco and vapour products to minors.
2. Protecting the public from the harmful effects of second and third hand smoke and vapour.

Tobacco Enforcement Officers play an important role in the strategy to reduce tobacco and vapour product use throughout B.C. Typical duties include networking with and educating tobacco retailers; working with test shoppers; responding to complaints; delivering warnings and issuing violation tickets and testifying at hearings as required. The Tobacco Enforcement Officer will achieve compliance with the TVPCA/R and ESR through implementation of a progressive enforcement strategy.

Baccalaureate degree in a health or social science related field, two (2) years’ recent, related experience in regulatory enforcement or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current, valid BC Driver’s License.

Must be eligible for designation by the Minister of Health as an enforcement officer pursuant to S.3(1) of the Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act.
