Registered Nurse | Mental Health and Substance Use

Position Summary

Interior Health is seeking experienced and dynamic Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join our team at the Royal Inland Hospital-Unit 1South in beautiful Kamloops, B.C. We currently have MULTIPLE Permanent Part and Full Time opportunities!

What will you work on?

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides: nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team; enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers; demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice; maintains and advances own clinical competence; participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights; rotating from 07:30 to 19:30, 19:30 to 07:30 hours.

About this location/unit

1South is an acute psychiatric unit that provides acute psychiatric care to individuals across the full spectrum of care; early psychosis, general psychiatric disorders, addictions and geriatric. The unit has a multidisciplinary structured program consisting of individual psychotherapy, ECT, psychopharmacology, psycho-educational programs, group therapy, occupational therapy programs, recreational activities, family assessments and therapy, and behaviour therapy. The programs are tailored to meet teach patient’s individual needs. Length of stay varies from 1-3 weeks.

As this is a general unit we admit and work with every psychiatric presentation imaginable. 1South is a dynamic working and learning environment and we are very busy with over 750 admissions last year so every day there is something new to learn and experience. Staff education is integral to the success of this program and education initiatives are provided to increase the knowledge and skills of all staff.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related experience in a mental health and addictions environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
