Recreation Therapy Worker

Position Summary

We are presently seeking new team members to join our Recreation Therapy Department at Durand Manor in Golden, BC. A strong candidate will have completed a course or certificate from a recognized recreation therapy program and hold a Class IV BC Driver’s License.

Effective April 1, 2023, hourly rate of pay is $28.74 per hour.

Working within a client centered model, the Recreation Therapy Worker works as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of an established Recreation Therapy Program.

As the Recreation Therapy Worker you will be primarily working with geriatric residents and short stay clients. This position assists in getting residents to/from their programs and carries out established leisure/recreation therapy programs. Staff go on outings with the residents and facilitate groups specific to the needs of the residents (i.e. social, physical, spiritual, etc.) including one-to-one programs. The Recreation Therapy Worker also reports relevant observations of resident progress and behavior to the Supervisor/Recreation Therapist and provides suggestions for changes or modifications to the existing programs.

The town of Golden is located in the Rockies region of British Columbia at the confluence of the Kicking Horse and Columbia Rivers. Experience the sights and wilderness of the neighboring National and Provincial Parks - Yoho, Glacier and Bugaboo parks and Banff National Park in Alberta. Famous for its canyons, spectacular glaciers, craggy mountains and cascading Takakkaw Falls, this area will delight anyone that passes by. Historically, the railway brought trade and commerce to the area with tourism becoming popular in the early 1900’s and continuing today. Golden may be the ideal starting point for extreme outdoor adventure including hiking, river rafting, horseback riding, heli-skiing, mountain biking, hang gliding, ice climbing or anything else that excites you!

Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shifts may be available Tuesday through Friday, with shift times of 09:00 to 14:55. Once hired into a casual role, employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent part time or full time positions. Qualifications

• Grade 12, completion of a recognized recreation course(s) plus two year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Valid class 4 vehicle license as required
