Position Summary
Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) opportunity available now at the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH). This is a relief position available until the return of the current incumbent. Days of work are rotating and shift times are: day and evening shifts: 05:00-13:00, 08:00-16:00, 12:00-20:00 and 17:00-01:00. Effective April 1, 2022 the pay rate is $26.39/hr
MLA’s perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. Performs ECG testing as required.
The KGH Laboratory is our largest and most specialized 24/7 lab and progressive teaching facility. The Lab consists of hundreds of team members who work collaboratively in a variety of disciplines such as: Collections, Accession, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology and Molecular.

Qualifications
Grade 12
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
One year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Valid BC Driver’s License as required
Ability to type 25 WPM *please upload a copy of an invigilated/supervised typing test dated within the last 48mths. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
