Position Summary
We are presently seeking new team members to join our Recreation Therapy Department at McKinney Place in Oliver BC. A strong candidate will have completed a course or certificate from a recognized recreation therapy program and hold a Class 4 BC Driver’s License.
Effective April 1, 2023, hourly rate of pay is $28.74 per hour.
The facility embodies a resident-centered philosophy designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level, and provide the best quality of life possible. It is a one-storey building on 11 acres, with 153 residential, 60 short-stay and 2 respite beds.
Working within a client centered model, the Recreation Therapy Worker works as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of an established Recreation Therapy Program.
As the Recreation Therapy Worker you will be primarily working with geriatric residents and short stay clients. This position assists in getting residents to/from their programs and carries out established leisure/recreation therapy programs. Staff go on outings with the residents and facilitate groups specific to the needs of the residents (i.e. social, physical, spiritual, etc.) including one-to-one programs. The Recreation Therapy Worker also reports relevant observations of resident progress and behavior to the Supervisor/Recreation Therapist and provides suggestions for changes or modifications to the existing programs.
Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are primarily on days. Shift times are from 08:00 to 16:00 or 09:00 to 17:00. Once hired into a casual role, employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent part time or full time positions. Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12, completion of a recognized recreation course(s) plus two year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Valid class 4 vehicle license as required
