What will you work on?
As the Emergency Nurse you will practice in the clinical setting and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care. Working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, you will ensure the delivery of client–centered care by assisting individual clients and their families respond to changing health care needs.
End of shift overtime may be required as all patients must be discharged or transferred prior to closing the department. The successful applicant must be comfortable working alone.
About this location/unit
Our stand-alone emergency department has 6 stretchers and 2 chairs, there are no in-patient beds. The emergency handles about 30 patients in a 12 hour shift. Laboratory and X-Ray services are available along with outpatient services. Most of the health services of the community have been brought together in the Health Centre including Public Health, Mental Health and Substance Use, Home Care, Home Support, Hospice, Wound Care, Community Physiotherapy, Diabetic Teaching, Aboriginal Patient Navigator, Respiratory Services and others share this space along with a Nurse Practitioner and visiting Physicians.
The emergency hours of operation are 0800-2000 with one nurse working until 2100 to handle end-of-shift backlog. The staffing complement is 2 nurses and 1 doctor.
The friendly town of Castlegar is located in the scenic Columbia Valley where the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers meet. Situated in the Selkirk Mountain Range of British Columbia between Vancouver and Calgary, it is a hub for commercial activity in the area. The amicable climate and breathtaking scenery of Castlegar contribute to an enjoyable lifestyle with unlimited recreational activities year round. Just a short distance from the town are championship golf courses, two world-class alpine ski resorts and groomed cross-country ski trails. Residents in this growing community also enjoy fishing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and camping.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the
British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
Advanced preparation in an ED clinical specialty or Rural Emergency course or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years.
