Mental Health & Substance Use Nurse - Seniors Mental Health

Position Summary

We are seeking a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who’s passionate about providing care to the geriatric population and has experience working in the community.

The Registered Nurse works to ensure that persons with serious severe and persistent mental health problems, and/or problematic substance use and/or development disability issues who may or may not be in crisis have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services. Working in the assigned clinical area of Seniors Mental Health, the Registered Nurse provides assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Registered Nurse functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

The MHSU Nurse will work with three different geriatric psychiatrists to provide a thorough psycho-geriatric assessment on clients. The nurse will present clients to the psychiatrist and bring patients in to see psychiatrists for appointments, also providing case management, follow up and education with clients and caregivers.

This position offers the opportunity to work alongside our geriatric psychiatrists as part of a multidisciplinary team. This is a rewarding position providing care and contributing to an increased quality of life for our elderly clients.

Shifts of work are Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30

Note: Any position that is required to enter a Long Term Care, Assisted Living or Mental Health facility to provide services, the successful candidate of that position will be subject to the PHO Order regarding mandatory vaccination.


Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related MHSU experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
Current valid B.C. driver’s license.
