Assistant, Credentialing and Privileging

Position Summary

Interior Health is looking for a term specific full time Assistant, Credentialing and Privileging to join the, Physician Medical Affairs and Clinical Networks team in Kelowna, B.C. This term position is until May 30, 2025 or return of the incumbent.

Salary Range:

Salary range for the position is $57,347 to $75,268. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

What will you work on?

The Assistant, Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) works in a team environment to provide confidential coordination of medical staff privilege applications and reapplication for Interior Health (IH) medical staff privileges. The Assistant maintains the integrity and confidentiality of all physician personnel and privileging information. The Assistant will respond to inquiries from medical staff regarding credentialing and privileging processes, procedures, provincial regulations, and IH Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules as well as connecting medical staff to the appropriate contacts. In addition, the Assistant understands the critical nature of the functions of Credentialing and Privileging with respect to quality of medical care, patient safety, and the impact provincially of the integrity of the data entered into the shared provincial credentialing and privileging system.

SOME TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Applies standardized processes for credentialing and privileging under direction of the Coordinator, Credentialing and Privileging and in accordance with the IH Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and the requirements set by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
• Ensures medical staff application packages are complete, correct, and have appropriate credentials attached.
• Prepares applications for approval by the appropriate approving body (i.e. temporary privilege process and through the Medical Advisory Committee structure).
• Tracks applications through the approval process.
• Maintains confidential physician personnel information in the appropriate software and network folders (CV, certificates, references, etc.).
• Prepares, submits for approval, and tracks to completion all medical staff reappointment applications on an annual basis.
• Ensures the accuracy and data integrity of information in the medical staff database software application.
• Ensures that privacy and confidentiality standards are met.
• Collaborates with IH physician leaders (Executive Medical Directors, Chiefs of Staff, Department Heads) to support the credentialing and privileging process.
• Prepares statistical information as required by gathering and compiling data and developing and formatting statistical charts and graphs utilizing appropriate software.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Diploma in Business Administration or Medical Office is preferred.
• Three to five years of related experience in Medical Staff Credentialing in a hospital or health authority setting in a Canadian jurisdiction.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

• A sound knowledge of physician credentialing and privileging processes.
• Demonstrated customer-focused approach.
• Ability to develop effective relationships with IH staff at all levels as well as with external agencies and physicians.
• Demonstrated collaborative team approach with communications skills appropriate to handling complex relationships.
• Superior computer and technical skills are essential.
• Ability to anticipate and respond to changing priorities, unforeseen challenges, and opportunities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
• Ability to influence change and handle conflict.
• Ability to organize high volume workload and set priorities.
• Independent and effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
